Curious Buttons

It's too bad I've seen this in a low-class movie house. Trinoma's cinema for CCBB (acronym) was too packed but Hannah, Kimie and I were too eager to watch this we opt to settle for SM. I never thought this movie will be hyped for Filipinos.

Well, I had no expectations for CCBB. Maybe I was just "curious" about the getting younger part and the story seemed predictable and yes, it is. And it's well above the hype for the awards season.

I must say the first half of the film was quite dragging. The scenes with Tilda Swinton and all the war parts could be easily cut out without affecting the whole movie. It's like, OK it's just a story of someone getting younger, nothing biggie. Maybe what Fincher (the director) was trying show is how the lead character coped with his old body but innocence all over.

But when he came back for Daisy and then the golden parts for romance, the whole film started to go high up and after that, continuous, sad, bitter, melancholic downfall. It's easy to sympathize at how his oddity will always shove him away from normalcy. That he can't be with his kid and that he could only live alone with his remaining years. And those very touching parts (that seemed too fast-tracked) of how Daisy cared for that little boy with dementia. I really liked those last scenes. So sad. So sad. I can say it again. So sad.

You'll feel that every scene was delicately woven, carefully mastered as though everything could stop and you'd get a good photograph. The make-up and costume designs too were brilliant! At first, I quite doubted they could make Brad Pitt look like a teenager but they did! Teeny weeny totoy type! Cate Blanchett really young was really young! She even looked 16! And when she's 60, she's 60! The backdrop was highly researched in that you'll really see the years passing smoothly, them growing younger or older smoothly too.

Taraji Henson played it great! I can easily say she'd get an Oscars nom. Though I doubt about Brad Pitt (maybe playing the earlier oldie part of the movie) and Cate Blanchett. She didn't seem out loud here because the actions were easy but I must say the camera loved her, she looked beautiful and very ballerina. Also, David Fincher for Best Director! He did a very extraordinary job for this film.

All in all, this is 10/10. The type that lingers over you, still feeling the movie very much. The type that over the years, you'll still come back to watch it again in DVD and still like it. I'm assuring myself I'm watching this again before it goes out from cinemas.

Highly recommended. Watch!
